Week 1 in review

Editor's note: This should have been sent at the end of week 1 but being of the slow sort, I didn't get around to actually doing it until now.

Ah week 1! Where every gurgle or squeak is the coolest sound you've ever heard, and every slight deviation from the norm is terrifying. Week 1 is brought to you by adrenal glands, parents & friends, and the letters F and S (food and sleep). We're exhausted but starting to get the hang of it.

Here is a pictorial review of the first week...

At first glance this seems like just another cute face. Then you come to learn that it's your final warning before the blood-curdling hunger screams begin.

Stella's Amazing Daddy

We had a great weekend and to top it off, today was Nate's first father's day, and my 29th birthday. Although we agreed that on mother/father's day the celebrated one gets breakfast in bed, Nate woke me up with breakfast in bed. What a man!!!!
It has been an amazing two weeks with Stella, and we are steadily growing in to our roles as "mom and dad". So far, one thing is evident...with every coo and cute thing she does, she can make your heart swell!!
What I love is that Nate seems to be a natural with her...he is nurturing and patient and beaming with pride. Watching Nate fall in love with our sweet girl has made me fall even deeper for my husband. He is going to be really good at this....HAPPY FATHER'S DAY BABY!!!

Pop Pop's (Aka- Megan's Daddy's) Perspective

Like Mother like daughter, they both had 12 hour labors. The party began about 9:00 am yesterday morning at the doctors office then moved on to the hospital. Early arrivals were Nate's parents Susie and Charles then Sherron and I arrived about 1:30 pm. Xan Janiga and two friends from Singapore came in about that time, followed by Nate's brother Carl, wife Kathy and daughter Haley. Seth, Michelle and Luke ( Annie was partying at her Aunt Nat's) arrived about 7:30pm and the party was starting to gain steam. Nate's sister Cara arrived followed by Nate's buddies Sanjeev and Brian. At about that time someone asked where the champagne was. Megan's friend Amanda and her husband Joe came in about 8:00 pm and the party was in full swing. Megan wanted everyone to stay in the delivery room but hospital regulations wouldn't allow, so the two Grandmas, Susie and Sherron, Michelle, Xan, oh yeah, Nate were in attendance. The rest of the party adjourned to the waiting room. We were joined there by Nate's brother Mark and the room was humming once again. At 9:48 pm Stella decided to join the party, she weighed in at 8 lbs, measured 20 inches, has dark wavy hair and is beautiful just like her mother. Everyone stayed until about 11:00 pm then the party poopers, who had to get up and go to work, started leaving. About midnight someone found a bottle of champagne but by then the interest had waned and the diehards were intrigued with watching the nurses give Stella a bath. The nurse brought Stella to the room about 1:00 am and we all got turns holding her, as we were getting ready to finally leave, I looked at Megan holding Stella and it brought a smile as I thought how much she looked like her mother. Mom, Dad and baby are all doing fine !

And along came a Stella...

At 9:48 pm last night, Stella Rose Little was born. She's 8 lbs. and 20 in. long, and she has a full head of brown hair and a mean set of lungs. I don't think I've ever seen a more beautiful baby, but I'm probably just a little bit biased. She's healthy and whole, and mom and I are both exhausted, excited and amazed that we did this!

Short story: Meg put together a 60 song playlist for the day, and it was quietly playing on random during the delivery. Right before Stella made her entrance, the song "Question" by the Old 97's came on. It was the song playing when I proposed to Meg, and the song we danced to at our wedding...

Mission accomplished.
